The Varex Pedigree
Varex Imaging brings more than 75 years of X-ray imaging heritage, with roots in Varian Associates and decades of experience developing the core technologies behind diagnostic imaging systems. Varex began producing X-ray tubes in 1970 and flat-panel detectors in 1999, and became an independent imaging company when it was spun out of Varian Medical Systems in 2017. Its detector expertise was further strengthened through the acquisition of PerkinElmer’s Medical Imaging business, adding additional flat-panel and CMOS detector technology to an already extensive imaging portfolio. Today, Varex components—including X-ray tubes, detectors, high-voltage components and imaging software—are incorporated into imaging systems produced by OEMs around the world.
The Evolution to LUMEN HD
The LUMEN HD represents the latest evolution of that detector experience. The original LUMEN 4336W, introduced in 2021, was designed around flexibility and serviceability, with common hardware supporting wireless or tethered operation and shared accessories across the LUMEN family. The next-generation LUMEN 4336W-HD advances the platform with a 100-micron imaging architecture, rugged IP68 construction, glass-free flexible detector substrate and optional SuperCapacitor power technology—eliminating the need for conventional lithium-ion detector batteries in the SuperCap configuration. Combined with Nexus DR acquisition software, the LUMEN HD platform is designed to deliver high-resolution imaging, simplified workflow and lower long-term ownership costs while building on Varex’s decades of detector engineering experience.
